About the Founder.

Hello there! I'm Abiya Syed, a passionate advocate for female health and education. I am currently pursuing the IB Diploma Programme, with hopes to study biology and gender studies in the future.

In my journey to loving being a girl, an important aspect was reconciling my relationship with my body. I did it in the only way I knew how: by figuring out how my body works. That journey has brought me here, where I have the privilege of sharing all that I have learned and am learning with the world. True empowerment, to me, is having enough knowledge about yourself and your life to make confident decisions, which is exemplified by this platform.

Apart from writing for Empowered, I also served as Head Girl at Indus International School Pune for the 2023-24 term, where I worked towards inspiring, uplifting, and protecting the women and girls around me. I also co-founded Daricha Tutoring, an organization that provides education for girls in Afghanistan, where secondary schools have been made illegal for them to attend.

Through the work I do, I aim to inform, support and empower the girls and women in my community and my life.

The Empowered. Vision

Figuring out what's going on in your body is difficult for any adolescent, but being female means handling a lot more confusion. Whether it's because of having to deal with your period, figuring out the emotional impacts of puberty, or navigating a world that's not exactly the kindest to young girls, having a female body is a lot of work. This is all without considering the many social taboos surrounding the discussion of this, which makes it challenging to understand when there's something unusual about your experiences, or even how to deal with common problems.

At Empowered, we want to answer your questions in the easiest, most scientific manner possible. We work on taking research papers and other reputable sources and simplifying them to help you feel more confident about your knowledge of your body and take charge of your health and wellbeing.
